Kid Carpet Biography February 2012
Kid Carpet (Ed Patrick) makes peculiar disco punk music with Casio keyboards, things that other people have thrown away, plastic (and sometimes real flying V) guitars and shouting.
In 2003, Ed began making music with plastic toys and dodgy samples as a bit of a joke, he was bored with the serious pretensions of contemporary indie pop bands and found audiences relating to the playfulness of his energetic performances.
Kid carpet released his first ep, Shit Dope in 2003 as a home-made cd which was re-released as a blue vinyl single in 2004 by Slow Graffiti Records. National radio session, remix and live show requests soon followed.
A popular support act for touring bands, Kid Carpet has opened for Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip, Arcade Fire, Art Brut, Badly Drawn Boy, Electric Six, The Go! Team, Willy Mason and The Presidents of the United States of America. He has become a festival favourite and has had the pleasure of performing in Japan, Hong Kong, Iceland and throughout Europe.
His first full album Ideas & Oh Dears was released in 2005 by Tired and Lonesome Records and featured 3 singles, Your Love, Shiny Shiny New and Carrier Bag. He also started having a lot of fun making pop videos. Second album Casio Royale was released in 2008 by Rob Da Banks Sunday Best label and featured the singles I Don’t Want To Fall In Love With You, Hitting The Wall and Make It Look Good.
Kid Carpet released The Advert Break in 2010, a tiny concept album maxi single of bogus advert songs and jingles.
Songs From Repo Chick followed in April 2011, released by Dan Le Sac’s Dumb Drum Records. Repo Chick is filmmaker Alex Cox’s latest feature film and sequel to his 80’s classic Repo Man. Kid Carpet was invited to write and record music by Alex for the soundtrack and Songs From Repo Chick is the result.
Kid Carpet & The Noisy Animals is a brand new touring show and album for children and families.
“i have a two-year old and have found myself quite naturally developing a range of songs about cars, crossing the road, going up the stairs, eating yoghurt, going to sleep or whatever might be happening at the time. i wanted to try and put together some kind of performance theatre rockshow cinema almagamation, something more than just a music gig for kids. this is an experiment and a test. i know nothing about theatre, childrens theatre, childrens music and their audiences and markets. i know that our son got given some really awful childrens music cds and books that made us want to puke and to make something better. I don’t know if anyone will come to see it but it makes me feel like i’m in The Muppets and i’m sure that must be a common desire for a lot of people.” (Kid Carpet quote from the shows programme notes)
Kid Carpet & The Noisy Animals follows four animals as they make friends, play games, need to go to the toilet, contemplate the world and finally rock out at a grand dance contest. The show involves some very lo-fi technological wizardry and turns ordinary everyday toys into magical superstars with the aid of a video camera, comedy and punk rock.
Kid Carpets Language Lab has been experimenting absurd mistranslations and has won a commission to create a show for the both the Olympic Games and the Paralympics. Expect complete and utter nonsense weirdness
In other work Kid Carpet (and his alter ego Ed Patrick) have been composing for Theatre and TV. His Dark Materials (2011), Flies (2011), Protecting Our Children: Damned If They Do, Damned If They Don’t BBC2 (2012), The BFG (in production).
Kid Carpet continues to enjoy writing, performing and expressing himself in any way that makes him happy.

Hello Kid Carpet,
i saw your show a few years ago in Schaffhausen/Switzerland. It was great!
Now i wanted to ask you if you`re interested to play again here in another place (Cardinal/http://www.clubcardinal.ch/). Me and couple of friends run an icecream shop (www.elbertin.ch) and celebrate the end of the season on october the second. Would you be interested to play then? Maybe we could find you another gig the day before to share the costs. What do you think?
Kind regards
Gabriel

Came to see Kid Carpet and Noisy Band at Birmingham MAC – we (the supposed grown ups) loved it loads and so did our 5 year old. We haven’t stopped singing ‘Bear on a Boat in a Bath’ and ‘Doin a poo in the forest’. We would love to see the show again!

Saw the show in Cardiff today with my 4 year old and 11 month old. Baby slept through most of it, but my daughter and I loved it – best kids show we’ve seen (and we’ve seen a few!). Excellent introduction to rock gig etiquette – I now feel confident sending her off to her first concert to mosh and air guitar safely. Thank you Kid Carpet.
